A brain will only take you so far

We got that slimey-walnut-lookalike thingy in our head we are really dependant on. We like it and we’re proud to be all clever and “thoughtful”. We “mind the gap”, things are “on our mind”. We “use our head” to solve problems and we “think about it” if we’re not clear about a decision.

But in the end it’s all just one big illusion. We’re no-brainers, after all. We’re beings defined by their moods, feelings, their guts. We believe in stuff and trust in ourselves, not because we know everything about it, but because we feel it’s the right thing to do.

Sometimes, the brain and the guts just won’t say the same thing. Question is: What to do? The more you think about that one big question nagging you, the clearer the correct answer becomes. Yet your instincts yell in warnings, that you should do the opposite.

Because being right doesn’t necessarily mean to do the right thing.

After all, it’s feelings overruling conclusions, not the other way round. The guts will, in the long run, always prevail. I guess that’s the difference between intelligence and wisdom – the latter taking into account your emotional side. Because a brain will only take you so far.
