CK: “Welcome to our daily night news. My name is Christian Knoflach and with me is my guest …”

CK: “… Mr. Santa Clause, guy with white beard and red suit and Doctor of Philosophy.” (Santa nodding)

CK: “Mister Clause, what do you think young americans should do to find a job in those hard times we are facing?”

SC: “Oh Chris, that’s a tough question there. The economy goes crazy, stock markets tremble and huge companies, that were considered to offer save jobs, are breaking apart under the popping of that huge bubble, grown out of reckless speculation everyone considered daily business, something that everyone else does too. And now it’s all backfiring. However, I think that this whole crisis – as bad as it, without a doubt, is – just cleans up the global economic field.”

CK: “How do you mean that, ‘cleaning it up’?”

SC: “You know, the bubble that popped didn’t come out of nothing. There was trading and speculation going on that not only exceeded real value, but also distorted the link between stock value and reality. If something only is worth $ 1.000 it really doesn’t matter how often it is sold for more than that, and how high that price gets. When it, in the end, comes down to the basics that thing will be worth $ 1.000 and if there’s no one left who has the extra juice to buy it for $ 4.000, those $ 1.000 will be all you get. Whatever price you bought it for was an illusion, something built on the base of a time in which a lot of people had a lot of money in their hands they didn’t care much about, and with the outlook of more and more profit, invested in very fragile things. This time is now over, and many a thing that sold for a a couple times it’s real value now inevitable falls back to that original value.”

CK: “Okay, that sounds reasonable. But, Santa, what does that have to do with the job situation?”

SC: “In my opinion, which since I’m spending most of my time in the high north, talking to reindeers and elves isnt’t the most financially profound you can get, the good companies will not get hurt that much. The dust that’s floating around after the big bang, darkening the sky for soon-to-be-graduates will eventually settle. What’s left then will be a real, hale economy with good companies and good jobs. So if you ask me, the future isn’t dark at all. Rather fresh graduates won’t have too high a risk of getting a job at an unstable company, for those will either be gone, or purged.”

CK: “So you don’t think the job situation will be all that bad?”

- camera 2 -
SC: “Definitely not. Look, the harder the times are, the more people worry. That’s unfortunate, because in fact: The less there is to loose, the less you should worry. As long as you don’t have running expenses or allegiances it’s not that big of a deal to take some time in finding a job. Additionally, I very strongly believe that if you’re good in what you do, and passionate about your work, you will always be able to find a job – just don’t let the one, other or many rejections discourage you. All you really need to make a living is effort and passion. That’s all the advice  I can give our listeners.”
